The Pre-1933 $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle is now available and ready ship in XF (Extremely Fine) condition. First issued in 1850, the Liberty Gold Double Eagle would not only be the first coin of its denomination ever released, but it would also be the most valuable piece currency for its era.

It has been brilliantly struck with .9675 troy oz of 90.0% pure gold, making it suitable for both IRA contributions and portfolio investments. In addition to its compositional value, the $20 Liberty Double Eagle has gained significant popularity among collectors as one of the few coins to be produced prior to the cessation of gold currency in the US.

The $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle was designed John B. Longacre. The front of the coin features his Crowned Liberty portrait, earning it the alternative titles of “Liberty Head Double Eagle” and “Coronet Double Eagle.” The portrait depicts Lady Liberty, wearing an inscribed tiara. She is encircled by a series of stars in honor of the original 13 colonies. Longacre drew his inspiration for his artwork from the royal effigies featured on ancient Greco-Roman currency.

The reverse side of the coin proudly displays the Great Seal of the US. This emblem depicts a spread winged eagle upholding a shield, an olive branch and a bundle of arrows. Due to revisions over the years, three versions of this design exist: the original; the type II version that displays the phrase, “In God We Trust;” and the type III version with the word, “Dollar,” fully spelled out.
