Description
Pre-33 $2.50 Indian Gold Quarter Eagle Coin (AU)
At the height of the Great Depression, the federal government ordered the collection of all gold coins in circulation to help combat the financial woes of the period. The result of the program was the loss of the vast majority of America’s historical coins. Today, you have the chance to buy a rare Pre-1933 $2.50 Indian Gold Quarter Eagle Coin from Omega Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
- Contains .1209 oz. of .900 pure gold.
- Issued with a face value of $2.50 (USD).
- Rare design set never used before on US coinage.
- Available in Almost Uncirculated condition.
- Individual coins ship in plastic flips.
America’s gold coins were collected by the government in the 1930s to melt down into gold bars. As a result of that action, investors, collectors, and history buffs now jump quickly when rare Pre-1933 gold coins are available for sale. An extremely limited number of these coins survived the collection, so each one is a true national treasure.
The $2.50 Indian Gold Quarter Eagle was unlike any coin that came before it. This coin’s design features marked the first time an incuse-relief striking process was used by the United States Mint. Rather than striking coins to create raised designs, these coins featured stamped designs that were inset within the coin’s surface.
On the obverse side of the coin is the image of a Native American chieftain in full headdress. His image is featured in left-profile relief. The reverse side displays the coin’s namesake image, that of a bald eagle. The eagle is shown perched atop a quiver of arrows, with an olive branch wrapped around the quiver.
The United States Mint struck these coins between 1908 and 1929. Coins in the series were struck at either the Philadelphia Mint or Denver Mint, with Philadelphia coins bearing no mint mark and Denver coins bearing a “D.” Each coin in this product listing is in Almost Uncirculated condition, meaning it has very slight signs of wear, with much of its original luster still visible.
