The series has long offered silver and gold bullion coins with various weights available. The collection also used separate designs representing the animals on the silver and gold coins. With the introduction of the platinum coin, the image of the gold coin was shared across the platinum series as well. Lunar Series III coins represent the third iteration of lunar-themed designs from Perth Mint. These collections debuted in 1996 with the release of the Lunar Series I program, a collection that ran until 2007 and offered limited options in silver and gold. The Lunar Series II program ran from 2008 to 2019 and expanded on available choices in the series.
With the debut of the Lunar Series III coins, Perth Mint continued to offer an impressive range of silver and gold coins. The Lunar Series III program now offers these 1 oz platinum coins, the first in the lunar collections from Perth.
Queen Elizabeth II is depicted on the obverse of 2022 1 oz Australian Platinum Lunar Tiger Coins. Her Majesty is shown here in right-profile relief with the George IV State Diadem Crown on her head. Introduced on Australian coins in 2018, this design originated at the Royal Mint in 2016.
An adult tiger is featured in the reverse design of 2022 Australian Platinum Lunar Tigers. In this design, the tiger is standing along the edge of a rocky outcrop with its muscular frame captured in great detail. The tiger shows off its prowess by looking back over its shoulders as it unleashes a loud roar. In the process, the tiger shows off its deadly teeth.
