The new Tudor Beasts Series from the Royal Mint celebrates the rule of the House of Tudor. Established in 1485 following the Wars of the Roses, the House of Tudor was founded by Henry Tudor following his defeat of King Richard III at the Battle of Bosworth Field and his subsequent marriage to Elizabeth of York. The latter move united the House of Lancaster and House of York, legitimizing Henry Tudor’s claim. He would go on to rule as King Henry VII.
Obverse features on the 2022 Proof British Silver Tudor Beasts Lion of England Coin include an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. This portrait of the Queen is a fifth-generation depiction that was created in 2015 by Jody Clark. The image shows the Queen in right-profile relief with the George IV State Diadem Crown.
Reverse depictions on the 2022 1 Kilo Proof Silver Tudor Beasts Lion of England Coins feature a shield with the impaled arms of King Henry VIII and his third wife, Jane Seymour. The shield is supported by the seated Lion of England, a crowned beast with the Imperial Crown on its head.
