- The reverse features the sugar maple leaf design.
Canadian Platinum Maple Leaf coins have a similar mintage history to that of the American Platinum Eagle. Both coins have a coining background that closely mirrors the movement of platinum prices and the demand for platinum coins. For example, following its 1988 debut the Platinum Maple Leaf was available regularly through 1999.
In 2000 and 2001, the coin was not issued by the Royal Canadian Mint. It returned in 2002 only to go into a hiatus again until 2009. Since then, the coin has been issued each year but is only available now as a 1 oz platinum coin. Previously, the Canadian Platinum Maple Leaf had been issued by the RCM in 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/10 oz, 1/15 oz, and 1/20 oz options over the years.
On the obverse of 2019 1 oz Canadian Platinum Maple Leaf coins is the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty’s effigy featured here is the fourth-generation design from the Royal Canadian Mint and was created in 2002 by Susanna Blunt. It debuted on coins in 2003 and is the first since the 1930s to feature a monarch without a crown.
The reverse of 2019 Canadian Platinum Maple Leafs includes the sugar maple leaf design. Used on the gold, silver, and palladium versions as well, the sugar maple leaf was designed in 1979 by Walter Ott for the debut of the Canadian Gold Maple Leaf coin.
These 2019 1 oz Canadian Platinum Maple Leaf coins are available in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The coins are offered inside of either individual protective flips or mint tubes of 10 coins. Each coin has the laser-engraved maple leaf privy on the reverse and radial lines on both sides.
