Prior to the release of the American Palladium Eagle in 2017, the United States Mint had never issued a palladium bullion coin. Additionally, the 2017 debut of the coin marked the first expansion of the American Eagle Series since 1997, the year in which the US Mint introduced the bullion and proof versions of the American Platinum Eagle.
All of these 2017 1 oz American Palladium Eagle Coins are available to you in near-perfect condition. Coins with an MS69 grade have full, original mint luster and no more than two minor detracting flaws. Those flaws are limited in nature to minuscule contact marks or hairlines that must be located outside of the primary focal points of the coin. The included First Strike designation means the PCGS received the coins within 30 days of the US Mint’s release back in 2017.
On the obverse of 2017 American Palladium Eagles is the image of Winged Liberty. This iconic design was created in 1916 by Adolph A. Weinman and used on the US dime from 1916 to 1945. The design was known officially as the Winged Liberty image, but was more commonly referred to as the Mercury Dime for Liberty’s resemblance to the Roman messenger god Mercury.
The reverse side of 2017 1 oz Palladium Eagles also features a design from Weinman, but this one was created nearly a decade earlier than Winged Liberty. Weinman created this image of the American bald eagle grasping a sapling on the edge of a cliff in 1907 for the American Institute of Architect’s gold medal.
