The American Gold Eagle is the most popular gold commemorative coin from the United States Mint. These coins serve not only as the official bullion coin of the United States, but as a proof specimen are the official collectible gold coin of the nation. Right now, the 30th anniversary of the American Eagle is celebrated in style with the 2016 1 oz Proof American Gold Eagle coin, available for purchase from Omega Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
- 30TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE PROOF AMERICAN GOLD EAGLE COIN!
- Arrives in velvet, satin-lined presentation case with a Certificate of Authenticity!
- Contains 1 troy oz of 22-karat gold.
- Bears a face value of $50 (USD) backed by the federal government.

- Features Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ iconic Liberty image.
- Miley Busiek’s family of nesting eagles on the reverse.
American Gold Eagle proof coins were originally available only in this 1 oz weight. While the four weights of the American Gold Eagle were all introduced at once in the bullion version, the fractional-weight Proof American Gold Eagle coins were released over the years of 1987 (1/2 oz) and 1988 (1/4 and 1/10 oz).
It is important to note that these 2016 1 oz Proof American Gold Eagle coins, though struck as part of the celebratory 30th anniversary release, are not the official 30th anniversary proof specimens. These coins have the traditional reeded edge finish found on all American Eagle coinage.
On the obverse of each you’ll find the image of Liberty created in 1907 by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Widely considered the finest American coin design ever, this image was originally featured on the $20 Saint-Gaudens Gold Double Eagle, the most coveted and rarest coin in American history.
The reverse features the image of a family of nesting bald eagles, and was created specifically for the American Gold Eagle series by Miley Busiek in 1986. An artist and sculptor, she had completed numerous private and public works of art prior to her commission with the US Mint for this coin series.
