2012 was a busy release year for the United States Mint and its American Silver Eagle coin program. In addition to increase demand for silver and rising mintage figures for the American Silver Eagle coin, 2012 was also a year of celebrations.

The San Francisco Mint was celebrating its 75th anniversary, the US Mint released an American Silver Eagle two-coin proof set that featured a proof and reverse proof specimen. The Making American History Coin and Currency Set included another special Proof American Silver Eagle minted in San Francisco.

However, these 2012 (S) American Silver Eagle Coins are regular bullion releases that were quietly resuming production at the San Francisco Mint to supplement production from the West Point Mint. While the latter was officially in charge of striking the coins, the immense demand pulled the San Francisco Mint back into action striking American Silver Eagle bullion coins.

Each 2012 (S) American Silver Eagle coin listed here is in BU condition. Coins in this condition exhibit no signs of wear and tear, though you may notice minor flaws ranging from breaks in the luster and spotted surfaces to contact marks from the coining process.

The reverse of all American Silver Eagle coins features the heraldic eagle of the United States, an image designed by then-US Mint Chief Engraver John Mercanti. It depicts the bald eagle behind the nation’s heraldic shield, clutching arrows in one talon and an olive branch in the other.

On the obverse of the 2012 (S) American Silver Eagle coin is the image of Walking Liberty, first designed by Adolph A. Weinman in 1916 and used on the Walking Liberty Half Dollar coin in circulation from 1916 to 1947.

The United States Mint strikes all American Silver Eagle coins, with these particular specimens coming from the San Francisco Mint.
