Each 2017 1 oz American Palladium Eagle Coin in this listing is in near-perfect condition according to the NGC. Coins with a grade of Mint State 69 bear full, original mint luster with a maximum of two minor detracting flaws. These flaws are limited in nature to minuscule contact marks or hairlines, and limited in scope to those areas outside of the primary focal points of the design field.
For the American Palladium Eagle coin, the United States Mint again revived a classic coin design for the obverse side. In keeping with the use of Liberty and the bald eagle in the series, Weinman’s iconic Winged Liberty dime design was chosen for the Palladium Eagle. On the 2017 American Palladium Eagle you’ll find Winged Liberty on the obverse and a design of the bald eagle on the reverse never before used on American coinage. This 1907 design came from Weinman and was used on the American Institute of Architect’s 1907 commemorative gold medal.
On the obverse of the 2017 1 oz American Palladium Eagle Coin is the image of Liberty that Weinman created in 1907. Known then as the Mercury Dime, the design actually features Liberty in left-profile relief wearing a Phrygian cap with wings. The design appeared on the nation’s 10-cent piece from 1916 to 1944, and was eventually replaced by the current image of President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
The reverse of all American Palladium Eagle coins features Weinman’s AIA gold medal design. The US Mint used the original plaster mold of his design in the creation of this bullion coin, creating a high-relief finish for the bald eagle. The American bald eagle shown here is on a rocky ledge clutching a branch as it sits with wings raised in anticipation of flight.
